How are my messages delivered?

Your messages will be delivered via email and text.

Are there recurring fees?

No, all of our products are purchased just one time.

Can I edit my messages or change my recipients?

Yes, you can change the content and recipients of any message at any time as often as necessary.

Can I delete or replace photos/audio/video contained in my messages?

Yes, you can do this at any time by editing the message and selecting the "Delete" or "Remove" button in each of those areas.

At what resolution will videos be delivered?

If you record a video using our software your video will be delivered to recipients at 1080p. If you upload your own pre-recorded video it will be saved at the resolution of that video file, not to exceed 1080p.

Do I pay per message or is there a subscription?

There is no subscription; you pay per message and can see pricing details at the pricing page.

How many messages can I create?

There is no limit to the number of messages you can send. You can send just one message to one person or you can send a million messages to a million people, at which point we will personally take you out to a steak dinner on us! Please and thank you : ) Your cost is correlated with number of messages you send.

If my recipient’s contact information changes how will they receive my messages?

We will do our very best to address bounced emails and undeliverable text messages but it is important that you keep your recipients contact information updated on a regular basis. We will remind you to do this periodically. Alternately, you may choose to have us notify your recipients that they have messages from you that will be delivered to them after you pass away. If you choose this option then we will remind them periodically to update their contact information.

Where are my messages stored?

Your messages and their content will be stored on secure servers. Storage servers are located in data centers across the United States. There is built in redundancy and high level security to protect your messages and their associated files at all times.

How long are my messages stored and are they secure?

Your messages are stored until 6 months after they have been delivered to your recipients. The recipients will have the option to download the messages and the message content during this 6 month period.

Who should I send messages to?

Most people will send messages to relatives and close friends but we also have a brainstorming list to help you with some other ideas that you can find in our Brainstorming List under the Recipients section of the Create Message page.

How long can my message be?

  • Written messages can be up to 10,000 words in length (approximately 40 pages).
  • Audio messages can be up to 5 minutes in length.
  • Video messages can be up to 5 minutes in length.

Can my messages be recurring?

Yes, you can specify for your messages to be delivered on special dates (like birthdays and anniversaries) and over a specified period of time.

What will my messages look like when they are delivered.

Can I get a refund?

Any message you choose not to send for any reason can be modified and/or repurposed to be sent to another recipient but no refunds will be given.

What is a Familiarity Phrase?

A Familiarity Phrase is the first thing your recipient will see when they receive their message(s) and it will help them easily recognize you as the sender. Please use something here that is an inside joke or something that only you and the recipient share in common.

How can I gift a message?

Do you store my credit card information?

We do not store any credit card information at Sunset Messages. Our credit card processing vendor, Stripe handles all of our credit card transactions. If you have a Stripe account you will have the option to store your credit card information there.


How will you know I have passed away?

Your Delivery Delegate will notify us through our verification process and send Sunset Messages a copy of your death certificate so we can confirm your passing. After you pass your Delivery Delegate will scan a QR code (Or enter a unique alphanumeric code) from the instructions form you have given them. This will direct them to our site, at which point they will upload a copy of your death certificate and initiate the release of your messages.

Who is going to make sure my messages get delivered?

Your Delivery Delegate will let us know you have passed through our verification process and send us a copy of your death certificate to confirm.

When are my messages sent?

When your Delivery Delegate notifies us of your passing your messages will be released per your pre-determined timeline. The earliest your messages can be delivered will be determined by how long it takes for your death certificate to be delivered to your Delivery Delegate.

Who is my Delivery Delegate and what do they do?

Your Delivery Delegate is someone that you choose. Typically they will be the executor or trustee of your estate but could also be a trusted family member or friend. They will be responsible for notifying us of your passing and uploading a copy of your death certificate to confirm. This will initiate the release of your messages.

How does my Delivery Delegate know that they are my Delivery Delegate?

Once you create an account, the sidebar includes a Delivery Delegate link. When you navigate to this page we will help you prepare a document that includes instructions and a secure code for your Delivery Delegate. You will be responsible for ensuring your Delivery Delegate receives this document. You can print a copy and give it to them personally, or you can download the document and email it. Our site will give you the option to generate and download a copy as well as help you initiate an email to the Delivery Delegate. We also encourage you to download and print a copy for yourself to be put in your estate file.

How long after I pass will my messages be sent?

Ultimately, you choose but we cannot send any messages until your Delivery Delegate confirms your passing and uploads a copy of your death certificate.

Can my Delivery Delegate see my messages?

No they cannot. They are simply the agent chosen by you to trigger the release of your messages.

Does my phone number or email addresss appear in the message?

No, your personal information is not included in the message. Only your message content. The mesage will be delivered from our Sunset Messages email address and phone numbers.

Do you sell my personal information?

Absolutely not. Under no circumstances will we sell your personal information to anybody or any company. Your privacy is paramount to us and we will do everything in our power to protect it. Can anyone else see my messages? You are the only one who has access to your messages. After you pass only your recipients will have access to your messages. Your message vault is your personal space so please keep your password and user name safe. With your explicit permission, you may temporarily grant access to a tech support agent to help you with any technical issues you might have.

FAQs for Delivery Delegate

What happens when I release these messages?

The sender has created any number of messages for their friends, family, loved ones, etc. prior to their passing. As one of their last and final wishes, they have asked for these messages to be delivered to the specified recipients and for you to be the one to initiate the process for them. You will initiate the release by scanning the QR code or entering the alphanumeric code provided to you. You will then upload a copy of the sender's death certificate to the site and the messages will be delivered in accordance with the senders wishes.

Why do I need a copy of the death certificate?

The death certificate is necessary so we can legally confirm the death of the sender.

Will I be able to see the messages?

Nope. Sorry, messages are only for the eyes of the sender and recipients.

Why me?

You are a trusted friend, family member, executor or trustee of the deceased and they have chosen you to have the honor of continuing their legacy.
